Bookish

That’s me, although I don’t know if I look it or not. But I think I have a book in me, and I think it’s a useful one as well. The subject has to do with music and culture (of course). My plan is to write a substantial introduction and, with that material, see what the practical possibilities might be (I know, it’s a book, just humor me).

I’m going to piggy-back along with National Novel Writing Month. Say what you will about it, but anything that can help anyone organize themselves to write 50,000 words is okay in my book. My short term goal is nowhere near that intense, and on good days I can get 4,000–5,000 words out, but with a family, there aren’t too many of those days. But the topic is large-scale and I’m not in a hurry. I want to make my case, present my ideas, and I have the luxury, such as it is, of not having a deadline, along with no commission or advance. The plan, hopefully, will change those last parts.

In terms of the writing, you, my dear readers, can help me with your encouragement and your curiosity about any progress I may, or should, be making. Check in, ask in (especially those of you reading this post via facebook), and I will post updates on my progress — this is another strong feature of NaNoWriMo, that feeling that you aren’t the only one zonking your eyes and developing carpal tunnel. That, and their “Procrastination Station.” Wish me luck, and if you catch me goofing off, remind me of what I should be doing.
