The Longest Day

You may have planned for the weekend, but don’t forget to plan for Monday, the Solstice, Make Music New York. I’ll be live blogging/tweeting during the day, and hope to have a follow-up with some audio samples. While a lot of travel is involved, I hope to be catching some Xenakis in Central Park, where the Oresteia will be given four times from 1PM to 10PM, and there are two performances of Persephassa, 4:15 and 5:45 in the afternoon.

Also on my short list are a Second Line parade, the Famous Accordion Orchestra at Brooklyn Bridge Park, Mobile In C in the Meatpacking District, funk in Williamsburg and pianos all over the city. Wear comfortable shoes. And be prepared for what can happen:

I'm a composer and musician, and I write about music—I do that here, for the New York Classical Review, at the Brooklyn Rail (I edit the music section there) and any place else that will have me, like New Music Box and Music & Literature. I also wrote the Miles Davis' Bitches Brew book in the 33 1/3 series.
