Are You Out There?

Out there with me, on the edge? This is a special request to those of you who love avant-garde and experimental music, because I’m out there with you. One of the things that makes this blog unique is the deep care and thinking and insight into some of the most unusual and extreme music being made, from Kenneth Gaburo to Sunn O))) to Robert Ashley. And if you care about that music, and care about what you learn about it from this blog, then please consider a donation.

The costs of this are not trivial, the work is at times daunting, and the rewards, and they are there, are in aesthetic and intellectual satisfaction. But sometimes a half a sawbuck or more really, really helps too. This spring is one of those times. Thanks.

I'm a composer and musician, and I write about music—I do that here, for the New York Classical Review, at the Brooklyn Rail (I edit the music section there) and any place else that will have me, like New Music Box and Music & Literature. I also wrote the Miles Davis' Bitches Brew book in the 33 1/3 series.
