Philip Glass Complete Piano Etudes

They’re here They’re here They’re here They’re here They’re here They’re here They’re here …

Philip Glass’s Orange Mountain Music label is issuing a 20-track double CD of his complete Piano Etudes, available today on disc and at iTunes. And the entire set is streaming through iTunes Radio.

And next week, December 5 and 6, all of Glass’s Etudes will be played at the Brooklyn Academy of Music—20 over the course of two evenings. Pianists include Glass himself, Maki Namekawa (who recorded the set), Nico Muhly, Timo Andres, Bruce Levingston, Sally Whitwell, Anton Batagov, Aaron Diehl, Tania León and Jenny Lin.

I'm a composer and musician, and I write about music—I do that here, for the New York Classical Review, at the Brooklyn Rail (I edit the music section there) and any place else that will have me, like New Music Box and Music & Literature. I also wrote the Miles Davis' Bitches Brew book in the 33 1/3 series.

  • A lot of noise in the recordings and they distract from the beautiful music, such a shame…
